Im posting this link on the GameFAQs board for Guild Wars. Just to annoy all the trolls that seem to be begging for GW to fail. If you look beyond the "new update second half of 2007" you will see there are some good numbers there for Guild Wars.

"The successful launch of Guild Wars Nightfall and the increase in the number of Lineage II players helped boost sales in North America and Europe."

"Meanwhile, sales of the Guild Wars® franchise rose 65% to KRW 18.6 billion (US$19.8 million). "

"The percentage breakdown of sales by game title shows Lineage and Lineage II with 35% and 36%, respectively, followed by Guild Wars with 22% and City of Heroes/City of Villains with 6%. "

And how many of those are still playing? Those are the numbers i'm interested in, not some sale figures.

I agree. I felt "caught up" with Prophecies and Factions when I purchased Nightfall, but now I'm really behind the ball in experiencing every ounce that I can of the game and the new skill mixes, strategies, etc...

I was actually considering not purchasing Chapter 4 if it came out in a couple of months so that I could truly get my money's worth out of Nightfall. This news actually comes as a breath of fresh air.

Don't bother you just gonna be flamed, and no one will care anyway (sorry if I seem a little rude)

It might be for traditional MMO games, but for GW SALES is what matters. They dont get a monthly fee, so if everyone bought one copy then quit the game...all the better for GW, all that money with low bandwith cost.

And I'm willing to bet about 1/3 of the people who have "quit" will come back time and time again when new chapters are released.

I know I will, but it will only make their argument's less credible.

All these "Gloom and Doomers" crack me up. They just keep preaching how the end is near, yet it still hasn't come.

The financial success of Guild Wars speaks for itself. My prediction: Guild Wars will last as long as Anet wants it to. It will end on their terms. Poor sales will not be a factor.

It could be that they are trying to follow in magics footsteps by having one major set(prophecies) 2 small sets (nf and factions) a pause in between, and then starting over again after words, in magic terms these sets together make up themed blocks...

makes complete sense to me if they do this... i dont know if its what i want but it could be done right and good...

It's much more than that. They said their business model was inspired by how many people pick up expansions for games they haven't been playing for months or a year. This does make GW a financial success, however the community isn't as robust as in subscription games when it comes and leaves in huge waves, which I guess some people care more about.

That is true. There is a case to be had for their business model and the larger gap between chapter 3 and 4 having a negative effect on the community. But to argue that this negative effect will be the downfall of GW is foolish.

Oh I am so amused!!! Tee-hee...

The whole major update/Chapter 4 interprtation is amusing...on this very thread I have read both, wow...I am over whelmed and the I want MORE!!! In reality the ones who want more and claim that GW is dying are missing the point. I am glad that some people want to get all 8 or 10 toons through all the missions...kudos for looking at things new and trying different things. Grind is all what you make of it...the $150 I spent on all three chapters is my entertainment money...instead of the movies or blockbuster I play GW...and Only GW.

I find things like auction houses and complaints about nerfs to farming builds as amusing. There was a thread about a guy farming 250 ectos in 5 days and someone spending 7M g on outfitting PVE toons for PVP. talk about conspicous consumption...What does an auction house really get you? Is an in game economy that much a part of people's gaming experiences?

For those of you who threaten to walk on GW, throw out your collection, etc, here's how A-Net feels: "SO WHAT!!!???""...GW makes money by selling new titles, if you leave it makes no difference as there is no monthly fee, they already have your money. What are you going to do, tell people, "well don't buy it, I did and I spent 8 months playing it and I gave up cuz it wasn't fun!"...uhh conflicting messages!!!!

...so now since nf is out, they will wait it out and let the people who bought nf buy and finish the other three chapters...(MORE MONEY) and you leave the servers so they save money on future expansions.

Meanwhile the uber gamers with the short attention spans move on and vow never to be back...

Fast forward to August 2007...World preview event...whole new story line, whole new wold for GW...back you come...why? Cuz it rocks and you loved GW, you just got burnt out...PVP has been revitalized and is cutting edge...its the must have game...all the other games out there are getting sparse cuz everyone is coming back...so uber gamer...

4 weeks later new GW comes out with record sales and all those that left are racing to find the new greens, the new swords and jack up the in game economy. Anet then races to get Ch5 up in 6 months to keep the zeal of the new world an chapet moving...all are happy.

and thenthe complaining starts again...

the downfall of guild wars is the fact that it exists... look through the history of this friggin forum and you will have proof of that... *ehem*

i would like somoene to point out a game that has had the success as big as guild wars that has just randomly died over the course of a few months or even a year...(barring games that were butchered by the developers) nothing in gw could be seen as a butcher the game is mostly the same and the chapters always add a seemingly acceptable amount of refreshment. No game just dies, no one thing can be the downfall of a game because a niche of the gamer base will not find that one thing so bad and it will still be alive for them.

predicting the death of a game is like predicting your own death. you can either live in the moment or spend all your time thinking about the inevitable and i guess you are dead already.

so baiscly, i think it will be the new prophices, and hopefully it will come with a few of the things they have been saying they would add, which may be why its taking longer
If this is gonna be GW II, I hope I can bring my characters over from GW I. I've put too much into em to just throw em away.

But due to Arena Net's business model, no one cares about people still playing.

Yes, remembered that, so not surprised. Glad too, too much to do

If they do this then I really hope they are smart enough to ban the skills from the new series of three from the old pvp-modes and ban the old skills for new pvp modes.

Sad thing is they should. Keeping old customers is just as valuable as gaining new ones. Telling old customers to f*** off is money lost to A-Nets cause

they are not saying [email protected] off...u are right that they need to keep the congregation in the seats, but if they get two new people in the door for each that has left...

GW cannot be all things to all people...it has its ups and downs...there are things I like and things I dislike...I want a monk that I can use in DOA, UW, etc...I chose to create in NF because I want to try for survivor title...is it frustrating with 4-5 primary quests inbetween the missions, yes, for me it was better than prophecies and jing she...at least I could use my decked out heros.

Remember just because you want (insert gripe here) doesn't mean that everyone else does...I could care less about auction houses, skill nerfs, PVP changes etc...WHY, cuz I adapt...nerf my favorite build and I will find another...

What I would really like is the GW community to not be so cookie cutter wrt to builds and teams...try finding a group as a warrior for tombs...or finding a home as a necro in DOA...last tiem I was in DOA there were 12 necros LFG...

Yes they should. And they are trying to keep the old players around.

Those are the loyal ones who will bring new players in (especially if there was a Mac client, HINT HINT HINT!!).

However, some of us are just too jaded to care now...

We don't offical know what or when Cpt 4 will be out or what it will be, so till then we can just guess and wait. Also I believe this is was they said " new major UPDATE to the Guild Wars franchise in the latter half of 2007" Now inless i'm blind i don't see anything here about Cpt 4 just about a UPDATE. This UPDATE could mean anything, i could be Cpt4 or another Big Update for NF. We will have to wait and see.
